I spent a lot of time deciding where to stay in Cusco and this was the perfect choice. We spent three nights there, stored our luggage for one night while we went to Machu Picchu. The courtyards and flowers are lovely. We had two superior rooms (rooms 307 and 308) with excellent views. We were really happy to have the same rooms when we came back after being away for one night- it felt like going home! For half the price of some of the fancier hotels, we got two rooms, one for my husband and myself, and one for our teenagers. It's an easy walk ( 10 minutes of a gradual uphill) from the Plaza de Armes. They helped us arrange transportation and guides whenever needed. It's not fancy, but has a relaxed atmosphere. It was quiet, even over New Years!

We spent two nights at the Hotel Rumi Punku sandwiched around our 1 day, 2 night trek to Machu Picchu. We were served coca tea upon arrival while our rooms were being readied. Everything was very good, including the hot-cooked early morning breakfasts, the hot showers, the free wi-fi in the rooms and the four computers in the small business center. The suitcases we left behind for two days were waiting for us in our new rooms when we returned. Highly recommended.

This hotel was a real bargain in Cusco. We stayed for 3 nights (including new year's eve) in 3 guys, and the room was huge, the beds really confortable and everything worked fine. The building of the hotel is beautiful, the staff is friendly and is always anger to help. The breakfast is honest and the coca tea served abundantly really helps with the soroche. Also, the location is perfect, 3 blocks from the Plaza de Armas. Very good bet!!!!

After a nightmare of a canceled flight on Taca (see related forum post - we recommend LAN and not TACA to fly to Cuzco if there is any possibility of bad weather) this place was a slice of heaven. The breakfasts were great. The private spa was unbelievably awesome. The location of this hotel is perfect and the staff went way out of their way for us. Very comfortable rooms, if a bit on the small side. Definite,y one of our faces of the whole trip, highly recommended!!

We stayed here in October 2011 for three nights total. The location is excellent, uphill from the Plaza de Armas, which is much quieter and with fresher air than staying down on Saphi, for instance. Then you are halfway up to San Blas and have a head start on the walk up to Saqsaywaman.
The rooms are arranged around courtyards and are very clean and comfortable. We stayed in a big three-bed room in the first courtyard for two nights, then were away for two nights, and returned for a night in another room on the newer second courtyard. The bathroom was slightly older in the first room but it was still clean and comfortable with great hot water.
The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable, very important as you adjust to altitude and need all the good sleep you can get. The rooms have radiators that start running in the evening and worked very well, we were never cold.
The staff are very helpful and accommodating. We left our bags for the two days we were away, and took advantage of the same-day laundry service.
Breakfast was plentiful and good, with eggs made to order, fresh fruit and fruit juices, yogurt, granola with kiwicha or quinoa, hot breakfast meats, cold cuts, cheese, potatoes, rolls and pastries. They start serving at 5am which is important when you have to leave early for a trek or flight. Hot tea (including mate de coca) is available 24h.
I found that this hotel provided excellent value and nothing to complain about. I would definitely stay here the next time I am in Cusco.

We booked at Rumi Punku based on reviews on TripAdvisor, and were anticipating a good experience. What we found exceeded even those expectations. At This hotel, you will get the kind of support and assistance that you would normally find in a 5-star in a world capital. All of this on a 2-3 star budget. The staff are extremely solicitous and helpful, and will help you plan the rest of your trip through Peru and help book drivers, tour guides, etc

We stayed at the Rumi Punku hotel in Cusco. It was beautiful, clean, great staff and terrific location. They also hooked us up with Efrain to set up trips to the Sacred Valley for reasonable rates. Our guide was Oscar. He went way out of his way to make the day trips fun and interesting. Really, everybody was fantastic and we had a great stay in Cusco. Would love to go back and spend more time there and would definitely stay at the Rumi Punku. Also, loved that they had the computer room available at all times! Very handy!

We had 4 nights here before doing the Inca Trek & then another 7 nights after the trek.
The staff were fantastic-so friendly & helpful. After the trek, we were upgraded to a much larger room. Rooms were vey comfortable & clean. Beds were extremely comfortable & cosy-had the best nights sleep on our return from the Inca trek. The showers were always hot. Breakfast offered a great variety-best scrambled eggs & bacon in Sth America. (We spent a total of 5 weeks in Sth America). A word of caution about the coca tea-we were drinking plenty of it throughout the day & before bed to help with adjusting to the altitude, only to find not a great idea before bed-it keeps you awake all night. Internet access is free-the business centre has 4 computers. Skype is alo available.
Hotel is in a perfect location-a 10 min walk to the Main Square. A few small grocery stores are located just down the road-bottled water is extremely cheap, as is wine & beer. There are a few laundromats just down the road also-very cheap. There is an abundance of restaurants/cafes within walking distance. Three of our favourites was Fallen Angel-interior & atmosphere was fantastic, Marcelo Batata-fantastic Alpaca steaks-very reasonably priced & Jack's just down the road-fantastic food, huge serves & very cheap.

We stayed recently at Rumi Punku for 4 nights - 1 night before Machu Picchu and 3 after our return. Couldn't have been happier with it. The location is excellent - easy walk to San Blas and to Plaza de Armas, but on a nice quiet street. The hotel itself is a charmer - a virtual maze of balconies and courtyards, with interesting antiques and artwork tucked in all the nooks and crannies. The room was "just right" - not too big, not too small, everything very clean and well-appointed. The breakfast was simple but more than adequate - good breads, excellent fruit, eggs cooked to order (and included in the reasonable price). But the best thing of all was the staff - not falling all over you, putting chocolate on your pillow every night or anything like that, but always ready to help. They happily and efficiently stored our luggage while we were off to Machu Picchu, they helped us arrange our day trips, picked us up at the airport, gave us good advice about restaurants, etc. What more can I say? We loved this place

Very much enjoyed our week at your hotel. Lovely setting and very helpful staff. A quiet, yet central location in Cuzco. We would enjoy returning and would highly recommend Rumi Punku to anyone looking for a first class lodging. The included breakfast is great.

Was picked up at the airport by Ephrain and a driver. They waited for me several hours as my flight was delayed. On the way to the hotel, Ephrain graciously explained many things about the city. The driver even explained where I could exchange Argentinian pesos as no one in Peru was taking them.

The rooms are in nice and clean and the water is hot. The breakfast included and is top notch. Four differe types of fresh juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, coffee, coco tea, and an assortment of breads and cheeses.

There are four computers in the main atrium with free Internet access and printouts.

Hotel is extremely close to Plaza De Armas as well as a great restaurant down the street named Jacks.

I'd highly recommend this hotel.

This property has none of the space maximizing features of a contemporary hotel, which is a wonderful thing. The rooms are haphazard in layout, with several sets of stairs that are marvelously redundant, creating small open spaces in unpredictable places. Each open space has been set with flowers and antiques and patio furniture, so that at any time of day you can find a quiet place to sit with different ambience. Getting up early for a quiet breakfast of freshly squeezed passion fruit juice next to the wood fire was unforgettable.

This hotel is a treasure! The hotel is a beautiful mix of Incan and colonial Spanish decor. From the street there is no way to know that once you step through the Incan doorway you will find a gorgeous courtyard and multiple levels of peaceful seating areas filled with flowers and fountains. The room included all the amenities we needed, minibar fridge, tv, comfortable beds, warm linens, free wifi and a large modern bathroom with good water pressure and lots of hot water. There are also computers available for those who don't bring their own. The staff were very polite and helpful which started right at registration when they served coca tea during the paperwork. Hot water for tea and coffee is available all day in the very comfortable lobby area. Breakfast was included and offered a variety of fruits, beverages, baked goods, cheese, cold cuts, cereals and eggs made to order. The location is perfect, just a couple of blocks to the main plaza and a short taxi ride to the ruins. We walked back from the ruins which was only 30 minute downhill, but going up it is much easier to hire a taxi. Also only a short and cheap taxi ride to the airport. We would have loved to have spent more than the two nights scheduled at this hotel as it would have been great to spend more time relaxing and enjoying the beautiful courtyard sitting areas

In September, we stayed here 4 nights before our Inca Trail trek, and 1 night after. It was easy to communicate with them by email about our reservation and they were always prompt with their replies. We were picked up at the airport on time and arrived at the hotel greeted with warm coca tea. We waited 20-30 minutes for our room to be ready which was fine since we arrived at the hotel early at around 7 am. Our room was on the second floor facing the courtyard at the back. I did request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor anyways. The room was a good size and clean. It does get cold in the room, but they have portable heaters available. The heating in the room only works at night. Hot showers available most of the time, depending on the time you take a shower. Wi-fi available in the room which either works fine or can be quite slow. But they have a computer room with internet access so that was great. The hotel property is beautiful with its courtyards and views from the patios. The staff were great and we felt secure knowing that there was always someone at the door. We had an ample breakfast every morning starting at 5am. Eggs were cooked to order, in addition, there was a mini buffet of cereal, fruit, pastries, and juice. Location-wise, it was about a 10 minute walk to the Plaza which was fine for us. It was nice that it was on a quiet street where you can also find small restaurants. Overall, a great stay and we would stay here again!

In September 2011 our travels took us to Cusco from Lima. We booked this hotel online so we were not sure what to expect. The taxi dropped us off right at the hotels front door. We were greated with a super friendly staff. After they gave us some coca tea, they told us to take it easy and eat a really light dinner until tomorrow, due to the altitude. Yes you can really get out of breath just walking up the stairs for the first few days. Our room was really quiet & clean. The hotel was super cute. Motel style with a gorgeous courtyard. Everyone gets a good breakfast each morning with eggs any way you want, juice, fruit, ceral, ect. I also really liked the fact that they have 4 computers so you can check the inernet & e-mail. I would stay there again..Rooms are a good price for what you get.

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights prior to the trek and 2 nights afterward and loved our stay! The room was cozy and comfortable, the bathroom was updated and we always had enough hot water. We especially love the courtyards and gardens and just the all around peacefulness of the place. It is also a short walk to the Plaza Des Armas and just about everything one needs. The hotel staff were very helpful and it was nice to have a friendly face to pick us up at the airport. We highly recommend Rumi Punku!

Stayed 3 nights here inbetween out Inca trip and we loved the place. It had great reputation on tripadvisor but the locals also recommend it. The location is brilliant, the rooms very clean and well furnished, well heated and hot water all the time. The staff speak far English and will sort out anything for you and 5am start to breakfast is great. There is a free pick up from the airport.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Rumi Punku in Cusco for 4 nights. It's a great, clean, charming hotel in a perfect neighborhood between the Plaza de Armas and the less touristy San Blas neighborhood. We stayed 2 nights, then left for the Inca Trail. We were able to leave some suitcases behind and they were waiting for us in our room when we returned to Cusco. They have yummy breakfast every morning too.

This hotel is brilliant. I stayed there with my Son in November 2009 for 2 nights before we did the Inca Trail and for another 7 night afterwards. The rooms are clean and very spacious with great bathrooms, the views from the balcony are tremendous and the breakfast is plentiful and everything you could want. Apart from this, the building itself is beautiful. The staff were polite, courteouse and extremely helpful. Our stay here was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. The only thing it doesn't have is a bar and restaurant but who needs that when you are so close to everyhing Cusco has to offer.

This charming hotel is located just a few blocks away from the main square and is very close to most of the museums, restaurants, and shopping areas. Staff is very helpful and attentive. Oxygen is available upon request, which one of our party needed badly as he was hit hard by the altitude of 10, 500.
The dining room, TV room is beautiful and very Cuscueno in feel. The breakfasts are very good and start early which is necessary for many travelers. Good coca tea available all the time with a big basket of the leaves for chewing outside the hotel. I found it quite helpful and didn't have any altitude symptoms until 13,000 at Lake Titicaca.
The rooms are all unique and nice. Good bathrooms, and lovely patios on many levels allowing a lot of different views from different rooms and areas of the hotel.

I began visiting Peru around 3 years ago. I loved my time there and have
continued to return....visiting 7 times in the course of these 3 years.

On my first trip, I reserved a hotel in Cusco based on reviews on Trip advisor.
This hotel, Rumi Punku, was definitely not a disappointment.
From the pick up at the airport by a taxi driver and a member of the hotel
staff, I felt very welcome. Entering the hotel (after all night of flying), I was
seated on a comfortable couch and served hot coca tea while I filled out
the paperwork.

The room was spotlessly clean, the bed and bedding comfortable,
the water always hot. The courtyards are beautiful....flowers and plants
gracing the courtyard and
always a small vase of flowers in the room.....one of the many signs of attention
to detail that make the hotel special. The hotel has an old world charm
while offering all the modern conveniences.

Sergio, who works in the reception area, has often said to me that “this is your
home in Cusco” and everyone in the hotel has contributed their friendly service towards
making me feel that he is right.....this place has become my home in Cusco.

Some of the other things I like about staying there include the internet room. the
ease of making international calls, and the great breakfast. The breakfast
is served buffet style in a beautiful room with two lit fireplaces to take the early
morning chill from the air. They always serve a variety of fresh fruit, 4 choices of
fresh juice, croissants and other breads with butter and strawberry jam, some meat and cheese, sometimes avocado, and always eggs cooked to order.

Sergio and the rest of the staff are always available to help one find just
the right taxi, tour, directions, restaurants, etc.

Since I have been going to this hotel, they have opened a new section with
“superior” rooms. All rooms in the hotel are nice (although some are small), but if you can afford the extra cost, the new section is especially lovely.

For me, there has been no reason to look elsewhere in Cusco.

“Outstanding! Great place in the center of Cusco”

I had a great stay not long ago in this hotel, it was really great and I can suggest it everyone. The hotel staff is friendly. Free transfer from the airport is included.

The location is very close to the main square and numerous shops. Rooms are clean and comfortable, I was upgreated to penthouse with great views to the whole town. Breakfasts are very good.

I highly recommend this really beautiful place.

“Terrific Hotel”
The Rumi Punku Hotel, was nice experience for us we arrive very early to the airport and we were excited to know Cusco and Machupichi, and there was a person waiting for us.
When We arrive to the Hotel the staff gaves a warm welcome with coca tea.
The transfer gave us all the tourist information, she introduce us to the manager who gave us all the information about the Hotel, allways he was kiding any time it was a particularcheck in.
We had early check in, the room were confortables, the breakfast was fresh and is from 5:00 am to 10:00 a.m, so we had early breakfast after two days we had to go for the inca trail, they keep our luggage free.

Tips for the next travelers:
1.- They have oxygen free
2.-If you want an early check in you can have it , no aditional cost
3.-They have a business center for the guests, if you want to make your flight check in on line , to talk by skype with your family ...
4.-This Hotel is located in front of the San blas ,typical neighborhood of Cusco

We got a triple room in a very small hotel nearby, sadly I never got internet access in the room, so I decided we should move even if this meant a couple bucks more. After unfruitfully calling several 3-4 star hotels in Cusco, I decided to wander and see what I could find. This is how we met the Rumi Punku hotel. We got the suite for 2 nights and it was worth every dollar spent. Friendly and attentive staff, fast WiFi access on the room, awesome feather blankets, two plasma TVs on the suite, cozy bkfst room and well located (3 blocks from the main square and one block from San Blas artisan stores) I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort without spending so much on top notch hotels.

A receptionist met us off the plane, gave us coca tea and advise on Cusco and altitude sickness on arrival at the hotel, then checked us in. The hotel is very quaint, well maintained and clean. The staff were always very helpful. The breakfasts were delicious, with a good selection of fruit etc.

The superior rooms are lovely and roomy.

We stayed here four nights--one before our trip to Machu Picchu and three afterward--so we had two different rooms. Both were pleasant and spacious, but the second was spectacular--a triple that was like a casita in the middle of the gardens, with huge windows at each end. Bathrooms were new and clean. The breakfast was amazing--healthy, with remarkable avocados and other fresh fruit, plus made-to-order eggs. And hot chocolate. Yes! The staff was remarkable--we left luggage behind and they picked it up in our old room and had it waiting for us in our new one. The hotel is close to the Plaza de Armas and the steps up to sacsayhuaman, with some charming restaurants just doors away.

What a gem. Considering the strain of arriving in Cusco and the strong possibilities of altitude sickness, one is so well met at this hotel.

Upon arrival one is offered coca tea and there is free oxygen at the reception if ever needed, my baby daughter succumbed to altitude sickness, a doctor was summoned and arrived within 10 minutes and took care of the situation post haste and she was as right as rain the next morning. The staff are jovial, friendly and accomodating, the manager Jesus speaks English well, and also a smattering of French and German. The rooms are superb with nice views where situated with a reasonably priced mini bar and for the early nights one will enevitably always have in Cusco a flat screen TV with plenty of bi lingual channels. There is also free Wi-Fi in the rooms as well as the use of a complimentary business centre, and a delicious breakfast

I stayed at the Hotel Rumi Punku Hotel with my girl friend two months ago, and everything was perfect, from the airport pick up and warm welcome with the coca tea, they gave us all the tourist information we needeed.
The Hotel has a particular decoration with a beautiful desing the rooms are quiet and clean.
Free internet, fresh breakfast included, you can order omelets or scrambled eggs, good location you can walk around with any problems, the Hotel is located next to the main square and just in front of the traditional neighborhood of San Blas, the staff are very attentative, very helpful and very special service it´s like being at home

Rumi Punku is as charming and delightful inside as it is unassuming and modest outside. Walking through the front gate into the interior courtyard is a revelation. The place is clean, colorful, lush, quiet and tasteful. We were there in April, and the smell and sound of wood fires crackling in the pot-belly stoves downstairs suffused the air. The breakfast -- both food and setting -- is a luxury. And the staff was wonderfully helpful and pleasant. Great price, too!

We stayed in various places in Peru, including a few different places in Cusco, and this was the best of the lot overall. This is a really nice hotel based around various courtyards. We booked a superior room and it was spacious, clean and with great views. A reasonably priced minibar was also a bonus. Location was excellent being less than 5 mins walk from the main square, shops, cafes and restaurants. Service was great, free internet was available and a laundry service was on offer. Free tea and coffee facilities were available in a communal lounge area where there was also a variety of games to pass the time and a nice log fire. Breakfast was good with bread, fruit, cold meats, eggs etc (5am - 10am). All things considered, this is a great place to stay and great value for money.

We had an amazing stay with the Rumi Punku in early January. We started and ended our stay in Peru with 3 nights here and found it the absolute perfect location in Cuzco. You are above the main plaza which is the center of town and below the neighborhood of San Blas with restaurants and antiques, in this glorious hotel. Our room was on a courtyard with a fountain quietly bubbling and lovely plants and ancient stone artifacts. The whole ambience was stylish in a Spanish colonial way. The staff made us feel at home giving us Cocoa tea on our arrival. Our room was huge with quality bedding, white duvets, excellent pillows, a very large clean bathroom with soap and flowers. There was a little refrigerator and treats atop. There was a large central room for eating adjoining a sitting room, with two of the most amazing fireplaces at either end. These fireplaces were constructed of ancient iron antiquities and were always burning. How wonderful to wake up and have breakfast (included) by the fire; fresh fruit, an assortment of breads, cold cuts, yogurt and cereals, fabulous coffee, and eggs/toast/bacon cooked by order. The staff was very information and helpful. They took very good care of us in a quiet thoughtful way, which we really appreciated. I would never consider or recommend any other hotel but the Rumi Punku for any travels to Cuzco.

This rustic but sophisticated hotel was just 4 blocks from the Plaza de Armas and hosted lovely rooms with authentic Incan walls in the courtyard and entrance. The staff was courteous and helpful. They helped us with scheduling problems that occurred with PeruRail and also prepared a surprise birthday cake for my teen son. We figured they garnered that it was his birthday from his passport. We were all very surprised by their attentiveness and thoughtfulness.

We recently retuned from Peru, using Cusco as a base to explore Central and Southern Peru. We were lucky to choose the Hotel Rumi Punku as our first hotel when we arrived with both jet- lag and altitude sickness and were so impressed with the hotel that we returned there on five occasions during our six week stay. The hotel was most welcoming on our arrival and very helpful with information about the area. Our bedroom was very comfortable and the buffet breakfast was of a high standard. It was very pleasant to relax in the courtyards, especially when I was recovering from altitude sickness on our first stay.

We attempted to book some trips with a local travel agent and were badly let down. The Rumi Punku Hotel were very supportive, first in helping us try to sort out the difficulties with this agent and then in helping us arrange an alternative visit to the jungle that proved to be amazing.

What impressed us most was the friendliness, enthusiasm and helpfulness of all the staff and we we would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cusco

Awesome place! We travelled from Canada to Lima (Miraflores), Arequipa and to Cusco. Have yet to find a more pleasureable hotel experience. Staff is wonderfully friendly and helpful. So nice to wake to a fire blazing in their breakfast room fireplace and then being served with a A+ breakfast made just to your liking. We (all 7 of us) recommend this place highly. Thank you so much for making our ten days at Rumi Punku/Cusco so enjoyable. Muchos Gracias amigos.

I was greeted at the airport in Cusco on time by the hotel driver/taxi and checked in at 8AM in the morning which was great due to the high altitude and my plan to relax/rest for the day. Was given a cup of coca tea right away and was complimentary (all day long). My emails prior to my arrival were answered quickly... they have an oxygen tank if you are not feeling well - I didn't need it.

The rooms are pleasant and if you are lucky enough to get a room with a view it makes it even better. If I make it back to Cusco I will definitely stay here again.

Last but not least, I hired one of the hotel drivers/taxis to drive me from Cusco > Pisaq > Urubamba > Ollantaytambo... it was one of the best days of my Peru trip! His name is Isaq and he did not speak english, but with my broken spanish it worked out well...

My family and I stayed here in December, 2010 and we were delighted! The pictures do not do it justice. The multi-leveled rooms are centered around patio courtyards that are alive with plants and flowers. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful. Our free breakfasts were more than adequate and we were even accomodated with freshly cooked eggs at our request. It was an easy walk to the center of town yet far enough away from traffic noises. We would definitely stay here again!

This was a wonderful hotel. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms are clean and comfy. And the breakfast was always fresh and well prepared. It's close to the town square but far enough away that it's a quiet spot. Definitely recommend this as a quality hotel.

Hotel Rumi Punku did just that: exceeded expectations. Clean, affordable, conveniently located, with an especially top-notched staff who warmly welcomed us to our "home away from home". I often check TripAdvisors for recommendations, but this is the first time a hotel inspired me to post a review. Don't think twice about booking Rumi Punku: you will not be disappointed!

The hotel was recommended by a friend and fulfilled expectations. We were met at the airport, welcomed on arrival, efficiently checked in at 10am. Rooms are arranged around courtyards providing space for relaxation. Our room was clean, well maintained and a good size. Breakfasts (5-10am) were fresh and ample. The location is easy walking from the main square or taxis were readily available. We stayed a week, returning to the same hotel after completing the Inca Trail.

We really loved the Rumi Punku. The staff was excellent. From the front desk to the wait and kitchen staff to the bellmen/security men. Always a smile and making sure your day is going 'as planned'. The breakfast is so enjoyable - extremely fresh cut fruit - cereals - and made to order eggs along with great coffee hit the spot every morning. The business center had 4 pc's that were always functioning - and the hotel has excellent secured wifi. We were there for 3 nights then went trekking for a week and stayed another 3. I had no problem leaving my laptop and other gear for them to hold for the week. They were so detail orientated. They made excellent dinner suggestions (Inka Grill, Patcha pappa). The hotel is in a good location, 3 blocks from the Plaza des Armes we loved that it was close but far enough to be a little removed from the shops/commotion. There street is well lit and there is always a bellman/guard there to welcome you back. It didnt seem necessary, but it was very reassuring. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely reccomend it to anyone stayng in Cusco.

We stayed at Rumi Punku in Oct before we were headed to Machu Pichu. Beautiful hotel! Good size rooms. Comfy beads and very quite in the evenings. Breakfast was amazing with eggs, bacon or sausage, fruits, pastries and hot beverages! The Inka Cafe down the street had the most amazing food! Great Qinoa soup and chicaron (pork cutlet) sandwiches for an affordable price. Jacks was also good.

We were picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel. Despite arriving prior to checkin time we were welcomed and given a hot cup of coco tea to help adjust to the altitude. Breakfast was excellent every morning. Happy to store our bags while we walked the Inca Trail for 4 days free of charge.
Lovely english speaking staff.
Very happy with the service and room.

The Rumi Punku, is set in a quiet area of Cusco but within easy reach of the main square, San Blas, shops, etc.

We had the opportunity to stay in three different rooms, due to us using it as a base in between trips. We found the rooms to be in good condition, clean and have comfortable beds.

Structurally the hotel is interesting with rooms located over three floors looking in on a series of courtyards and verandas, these are decorated with plans and ornaments with plenty of chairs and tables making this a relaxed and attractive environment .

The hotel also benefits from the addition of a separate internet room, with four computers.

A good quality buffet breakfast is served in an attractive dining area over a very flexible time period.

We found all staff very friendly, courteous and extremely helpful.

Hotel Rumi Punku in Cusco, Peru looked decent on Trip Advisor, but honestly by the time I got around to booking a room there, I wasn't able to spend my usual amount of time comparing the hotel to others.
What a pleasure when we walked though the genuine, but nondescript Incan stone door frame and saw flowers and beauty everywhere! We were immediately handed cups of tea to help alleviate elevation sickness while being greeted by Jesus the manager. He sat us down in the sitting area while our bags were quietly removed to our intended room. He talked us though paperwork and any potential questions. Then he escorted us though hallways and open air areas filled with tropical plants, vased flowers and comfortable seating spaces. When we got to our room, it opened onto one of the fountained, roofless squares, filled with greenery. The room was lovely with comfortable bedding, a vase of flowers, furniture, flatscreen TV and modern bath. It was a good size for the two of us.
We spent 3 days and 4 nights at the Rumi Punku. It was quiet and serene 24/7. We enjoyed the included buffet breakfast with an assortment of fresh squeezed juices and cut up fruit, along with rolls, cheese, meats, cereals, and fresh eggs prepared to your liking. All the staff we met were courteous, helpful and very accommodating.
We would love to return to Cusco. If we do, we will definitely stay again with Jesus and his staff at the Rumi Punku! Thank you all.

My pregnant daughter and her husband stayed at the Rumi Hotel last week. Her birthday was Friday, and I contacted the hotel ( specifically Jesus) and asked if they could arrange a special breakfast or flowers or something to make her day special. To my delight and amazement, they did all of the above as well as a cake and a gift for the baby she is carrying. The staff sang happy birthday and then sent me photos of the event!. Now this is customer service beyond the expected and I would recommend this establishment to anyone who values this lost art of customer satisfaction!. Thanks to Jesus and the staff for a wonderful suprise for my daughter!

We stayed for 8 days at the Rumi Punku hotel in August. The staff was wonderful and helpful. Sergio arranged transportation and guide services for us to Machu Picchu and other sites and ruins in the area. He was very helpful in making selections that fit what we wanted to do. The prices were very reasonable and it saved us a lot of time in trying to figure things out for ourselves. The rooms were very comfortable and the location is perfect. The hotel is just a few blocks to the main square. Cusco is a wonderful city that one can feel safe and secure walking at any time of the day or night. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was my favorite hotel I stayed in on my trip to Bolivia and Peru. The door is magnificient and the inside is beautiful. The staff was very nice and friendly too. Especially Nayade. She helped me back into my apartment when I was locked out, 3 times! Wonderful experience there!

The breakfast which is included is really good and variated. We also appreciated the nice fireplace in the cafe in the morning and at night. The best hotel ever! We will miss it.Thank you.

I love this hotel - it is a home away from home. Great location and very comfortable. Carla and Sergio at the front desk were always helpful. And the tours booked through Sergio's agency, Inka Legacy, were wonderful - like having insiders information. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Rumi Punku in November of 2009....so we are also late with the comment!
We fully agree with the good reviews. ...cute, small, quiet, clean hotel...good staff, good breakfast...well located too. Would certainly recommend, unless you want to stay in big hotel chains. We made reservations through their website 2 months before our planned flight to Lima - Cusco ...everything worked out very smoothly. Thank you!

Ok, so I am a little late in writing this, but better late than never.

When anyone I speak to mentions a possible trip to Cusco, I immediately mention the Rumi Punku as the place to stay. Hence, while it has been a few months since my visit, I decided I should put it in writing for more to see.

Our room was smallish, but clean and well furnished with comfy beds. Staff was extremely helpful with anything requiring assistance : from replacing items in the room, blankets (they are awesome by the way), to helping us book rides, tours, etc. They work with some great chauffeurs. The area felt safe, was well lit, and we were never afraid to move around even at night. I loved the fire in the dining room fireplace early in the morning - worked great to take the edge of cool mornings. (we were there in October). If you have a special request - don't be shy, they just may be able to help you!

While they have English speaking staff, I was happy to chat which them in Spanish, after all, I wasn't in Cusco to speak English with everyone!

I want to go back!

Gracias por todo, ojala nos vemos pronto.

Service at this hotel was great. Not sure if it is family operated but it seemed like it was. Nice breakfasts. Internet access from the lobby. Location was perfect for me because it was above the chaos of the main square and down a quieter street. I travel the world and would definitely recommend this hotel as a solid option and good value

I stayed here in December, 2009. This was my first trip to Peru and I am a nervous traveller. I must say that Rumi Punku was marvelous. The rooms were clean and spacious, the showers hot, the towels fluffy, the buffet breakfast generous and varied. The staff was very friendly and hospitable, the courtyard and dining area have some real genuine local charm, and invite guests to chat with one another, which was a pleasant surprise. I also expecially liked the doorman who was a gentle but firm sentry at the entranceway, a boon to any nervous traveler. I was glad that I did not pick a big hotel chain, but found this local place. It has local charm. I would stay here again. I am writing this review because reading reviews was how I chose my locations, so it is a way to thank and pay back all who take the time to write these reviews.

Josi2006 (London, UK)

My mother and I just stayed at Rumi Punku before and after we hiked the Inca Trail. And it was one of our best decisions of our trip. The hotel is nicely ethnically styled, the rooms are a good size and come with the comforts expected in more expensive hotels, the breakfast was delicious, the staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly (better than most hotels in Europe and the US), free wifi (although sometimes doesn{t work in the rooms) ... and the location is good. Not right in the center but close to all the restaurants, bars, sites etc so that you have access without the noise and foot traffic. I highly recommend!

And if you do the Inca Trail.. I strongly recommend you take up the spa ($10 per person cost) for recovery. Its on the roof top and you overlook the beautiful vista of cuzco. You can take a jacuzzi bath (exceptionally clean and comfortable), sit in the sauna... all whilst enjoying a well deserved glass of wine! Its was a perfect touch!!!

Hi thoroughly enjoyed my 2 night stay at Rumi. The place is immaculately kept, the service is friendly and personal. They serve a wonderful breakfast every morning in the main lounge which is very homey and relaxing. Wi-Fi connection is excellent too! You can even reserve the jacuzzi-sauna all to yourself! I will be back!

We stayed three nights at the Rumi Punku - two nights in Cusco to acclimate and one night to pamper ourselves after our Andes trek and trip to Machu Picchu. During our stay, we had the best service I think we've ever experienced at a hotel. The staff went out of its way to help us with our travel arrangements.

As for location and amenities, we found the location of the Rumi Punku to be ideal as it was close to the town plaza and several great restaurants. Everything seemed to be in walking distance. The breakfast was delicious, with made-to-order eggs and a variety of other food.

We would enthusiastically recommend this hotel to a friend.

Even before I arrived the hotel staff was extremely helpful. They arranged a taxi to meet me at the airport and when I told them I was traveling with my bicycle they made sure the taxi would be able to accommodate that. I arrived to a very warm welcome, which I particularly appreciated after a long flight with several connections. The location is very convenient, only a few minutes walk from the main plaza and the beautiful views of San Cristobal are just up the hill

We just completed a week long vacation in Cusco Peru. I found this hotel from Trip Advisor and the experience certainly exceeded our expectations.
The staff are very polite and professional, they are very helpful when we asked for any advises or help.
hotel situated only few blocks from the main square, which is very convent, and it is also close to the San Bla artist district in the north. Wi-Fi is also available.

The near by Jack's Cafe is our favorite restaurant in town, the Capuccino is to die for and put Startbucks in shame, great price too.

This has to be one of the best hotels I have stayed in for overall guest experience.

The hotel is very comfy, well furnished and spotlessly clean; plus all the staff speak excellent English and are very friendly and helpful. The whole place is relaxed and welcoming.

During the time I was in and around Cusco, I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights in various rooms as I came and went from several extended excursions (during which my bag was stored for free so I could travel light) and so I had the chance to try three different rooms: they were all of a high standard and comfy. Even though I was travelling on my own, I had large double rooms.

Inside the Inka doorway, the hotel is based around an open courtyard with the rooms on three sides and the 24 hour reception in the middle. There are a number of polite signs requesting guests to be quiet between 9pm & 7am and there was only one morning when I was aware of any early-morning noise. The free WiFi connection worked well, even in the back corner of the courtyard and there are also two PC's in the sitting/dining area.

Breakfast was served from 5am and offered a choice of cereals, breads, ham, cheese and omelette/scrambled eggs etc as well as fruit juices, yoghurt, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate.

One of the really nice features of the hotel is the sitting area which also had hot water and coca leaves for the guests to help themselves to coca tea all day. I met a number of interesting people in this area and enjoyed some good conversations. The area is also interestingly furnished and it is worth looking around.

On my last night, the staff had thrown a party for the owner on his birthday and when I went over to listen to the music, I was warmly invited to join in and have a drink and a dance!

The hotel is located a 5-10 minute stroll from the main square and the route takes you past the famous 12 sided Inka stone. There are a number of restaurants, pubs, shops (inc. a pharmacy and little "corner" shops) in addition to the craft shops & galleries on the road from the hotel to the main square.

The area is well lit and busy and I felt very safe walking around on my own even after dark.

We stayed 4 nights before our Inca trail trek and 2 nights afterwards and couldn't fault our stay. The location is great, only a short walk to the Plaza and a very nice setting with such helpful staff. Our room was very clean and spacious and brand new fridges had just been installed in all the rooms. The breakfast was good, one of the best we found in Peru, and the endless supply of cocoa tea surely helped in us not having any altitude problems. Would definitely stay there again if we are ever lucky enough to return to Cusco.

Recently spent 4 nights at Rumi Punku at the end of our trip to Peru. Was very pleased with the room (roomy & clean) and the service (prompt & friendly). A quiet location that is about a 10 minute walk from the main plaza.

The breakfast buffet was excellent - plenty of fresh fruit, juices, rolls, cheese and ham. Was able to order scrambled eggs.

Two computers were available in the lobby with high speed internet access. Very convenient to check email and stay in touch with family & friends. WiFi is available if you have your own laptop.

Plenty of hot water - very important since we were just coming off the Inka Trail. That first shower felt great!

I have been at the Hotel Rumi Punku for 6 nights, four before and two after trekking the Inka Trail.

Everything has been great, from the airport pick-up to the check-out. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, even when I had unusual requests (I asked them to help me to find a way to cut in two a walking stick which was not fitting in my bag, and they fulfilled my request in 5 minutes!!).

Both the rooms I have been in were clean, quiet and comfortable, with hot water and heating always available. Breakfast was very good, and available from 5AM (very appreciated on the morning I left for the Inca Trail). They safely stored my bag during the 4 days I have been away.

A special thank to Sergio who helped me organizing several tours for visiting the city, the Sacred Valley, Moray, the Salinas, and suggested fine restaurants.

In summary, the Rumi Punku has been by far the best hotel I have been during my stay in Peru.

My best friend and I stayed at Hotel Rumi Punku for 5 nights over 4 separate stays while in Peru. It just so happened that all of our excursions returned us back to Cuzco, so it worked out perfect for us to continue to return to the same hotel. The staff at Rumi Punku were amazing. They knew our names from the first day and continued to remember us each time we returned. We stayed in 3 different rooms, all of which were perfectly comfortable. The beds were large and the blankets were warm; a welcome contrast to the night chill of the Cuzco winter air. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi if you have your own computer in addition to two computer terminals in the lounge free for everyone. Both computers are loaded with Skype and the hotel even provides headsets to assist with low cost international calling. Breakfast is served every morning from 5a-10a in the same lounge and consists of a selection of fresh fruits, grains, granolas, and cereals, fresh squeezed juices, fresh baked breads, eggs cooked to order, and lean bacon. Early in the morning, the staff lights a fire in the large fire place. So charming. As I mentioned earlier, we stayed here 4 separate times. Between each stay, the hotel was more than happy to store the excess luggage that we didn't need for each excursion. That was a huge help. The hotel is located very near to the Plaza de Armas in the San Blas area of Cuzco - maybe a 10 minute leisurely walk. At night, the main doors of the hotel are closed, locked, and guarded, making everyone perfectly safe. Taxi's are readily available and cost about S/3 to get to the Plaza if you don't want to walk. The hotel is decorated beautifully with antiques of all types. Its worth your time to walk around and look at all of the interesting items the owners have acquired over time.

This hotel not only met but exceeded our expectations. The rooms were clean and comfortable, especially the beds. There are computers in the lobby and free WiFi,if you bring your own. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were able to store our luggage during our 5 day treck and also on day of departure.. It is located on a quiet street within easy walking distance of the main square and we were able to find several good restaurants on the street.

As I told the manager when I was checking out, I've probably stayed in hundreds of hotels all around the world, and the staff at the Rumi Punku was definitely the friendliest, most helpful and most professional of any.The good vibes started with the warm welcome I and several other guests got when we were picked up at the airport. When we got to the hotel we settled into the pleasant lounge area, were served coca leaf tea to help us adjust to the altitude, and did our paperwork. We were then given an overview of the city and the hotel's services. The location of the Rumi Punku couldn't be better. It's on a relatively quiet but centrally located street close enough to the Plaza de Armas while still giving one enough of a respite from the tourist heart of the city. The street, Choquechaca, has several good restaurants, and is close to Plaza San Blas, with more dining choices. Just down the block is a cute little no-cover music club/bar.Rooms are clean and simple, with comfortable beds, cable TV, free WiFi, 24-hour hot water and good heat (necessary for those cold mountain nights). My room cost me $70 US a night, including breakfast, and they were able to charge my credit card in dollars, avoiding foreign exchange fees. They can store your luggage if you take a hiatus elsewhere in the region, as I did, and don't want to lug all your stuff. When I wanted to confirm a dinner reservation in Lima, they made the call for me and wouldn't accept any money for the call. When a tour company screwed up on my pickup for a tour of nearby attractions, the manager called a cab and accompanied me to meet up with the tour at the first stop. Granted the tour company was the one the hotel does business with, but I suspect some hoteliers would have called the cab and left me to my own devices with instructions.Everybody at the hotel spoke impeccable English and their sunny disposition was infectious, though, truth be told, the latter could probably be said about most Cusqueños.

My husband and I travelled to Peru to hike the Inca Trail and see the desert. When we arrived to Cusco early in the morning, we checked into Hotel Rumi Punku. The hotel picked us up at the airport (free) and immediately checked us in. Even though it was only 8 a.m., they already had a room ready for us. They also immediately provided us with coca tea for altitude sickness. Yes, altitude sickness is real and you should take the first day easy. Don't make the same mistake we made by climbing Inca ruins on your first day in Cusco. We ended up really sick and the staff at Hotel Rumi Punku brought us an oxygen tank to our room and pills for altitude sickness. The rooms are very clean and so are the bathrooms. The beds are very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. The staff was friendly and spoke English. To top it off, the hotel was very affordable and a nice breakfast was included every morning. The hotel also had three computers with free internet, which is not easy to find in Peru. I definitely recommend it.

Rumi Punku is a wonderful hotel. We stayed for just over a week, making it our base as we toured and explored the area. We booked based off the TripAdvisor reviews and ratings, and we were not disappointed. We had a "matrimonial" room, meaning it was a queen size bed and a decent size. Not huge, but larger than rooms I've seen in Europe and other places. It was clean and functional. The bathroom had great water pressure and the water was hot (unless you showered after 9am). The staff was excellent--always smiling and polite. We used a few of their recommendations for dinner and were not let down.

pirahnamedic (San Diego)

chose this hotel based off of TripAdvisor's comments and from its #3 rating of best hotels in Cusco. I'm so glad I stayed there. The hotel is in the San Blas part of town, just up from the main square. It is a bit of an uphill walk to get there, but it will help you acclimatize. We were greeted with hot tea and immediately shown around the place and to our room. We stayed about a week before our trip to Machu Picchu and then one night afterwards. The rooms are not fancy, but they are comfortable, warm and clean. The hotel grounds are quaint, well kept and garden-like. There is free internet. A wonderful, healthy and hearty breakfast is served every morning from 5-10 am. There is a friendly security guard at the front door at night. They will also stow your suitcases while you go to Machu Picchu. The best part of Rumi Punku, though is the people who work there. They were all so friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond to make our stay there perfect, giving everything from dinner suggestions to booking us daily excursions.

I just returned from a 2 night stay at Rumi Punku. The hotel is located just a 10 minute walk from the Plaza. My family of 5 stayed in 1 room with 3 single and 1 double beds. The beds were very comfortable and "warm". The shower was hot with great water presurre, this is extremely important to me. They have free internet service which was great...the staff was kind and efficient.

My husband, my daughter and I stayed at the Rumi Punku hotel for four nights. This is a beautiful small hotel located in the center of Cusco. The hotel grounds resemble a colonial mansion, and the rooms and the grounds are very well maintained. The hotel is incredibly well located – about a 5-10 minutes walk from Plaza de Armas, and a short walk down the hill from Jack’s – a great place to grab a quick bite for lunch. But the best asset of the hotel is its friendly staff - especially Sergio. He was terrific from the minute we arrived until we left. He provided us with very useful information regarding the nearby Cusco area, places to visit, means of transportation, etc. Breakfast is a bit limited, but its served starting at 5am, which is a huge plus for the early train rides to Macchu Picchu. Many of the previous reviews complain of the noise, but we didn’t hear anything at all – and we stayed in rooms overlooking the courtyard. Overall, this is a great hotel for its value!

I chose this hotel based on TA reviews, and was not disappointed at all. I arrived at the hotel and was greeted well and shown to my room right away. The front desk staff could speak English well. The room was clean and had everything you needed. The location was great. The computers in the breakfast room were available for guests to use - which was very helpful. I stored my luggage here while doing the Inca Trail trek and returned to the hotel for 2 more days following. Great hotel - would recommend to everyone!

Fantastic Breakfast (fresh fruits, breads, eggs, juices, coffee, tea, cheese and deli meats, bacon...) Picked us up from the airport, had a sign with our name on it. Offered tea and coffee while awaiting check-in. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy walk to main plaza de Armas. Had a man at the front door for security and service around-the-clock. Safely stored our bags while we were on the 4 day trek. Wireless internet in the lounge and 2 computers for guests.Charming grounds and sunny terrace. They appologized profusely for the noise of construction...but it was nice to see they are upgrading and expanding the property. Quiet at night. Plenty of hot water in the showers. Used the jacuzzi and sauna one day after the trek. The sauna has a wall of windows that looks out over the roof-tops of Cuzco...magical!

We booked four nights at Rumi Punku (before and after our hike/Machu Picchu visit), based on the TripAdvisor reviews, and were not disappointed. The staff was absolutely great, very helpful with room logistics, luggage and helping us book a taxi for a Sacred Valley tour. The breakfasts are great as well, with a good selection of sandwiches, cereals and fruit, plus egg/bacon available for those who prefer something hot in the morning. Coca tea (if you like it) is available 24/7 as are two PCs for Internet access. The rooms are pretty spacious if you get one with a queen-size (?) bed, but the ones with two twins end up being more tight, especially if you are hauling a lot of luggage. But it's clean, it's warm (you can *really* cook up the temperature if you over-adjust the radiator!) and everything works. Contrary to another review, we found the rooms, on the second and third floor, to be very quiet and slept well. But maybe that's because we just came back from the rain forest where the frogs and insects keep up their symphony all night long? And the location, while looking to be off to the side, was very convenient, just five minutes' walk from the tourist-filled Plaza des Armes. You can eat at the plaza for S/50+ at a tourist restaurant, or get the three-course menu across at one of the tiny local restaurants across the street for about S/15 ...The place to be in Cusco!

Standard answer of the staff: of course. Can I have an egg?, do you have a hairdryer?, can we get some fresh towels?, can we have breakfast at 05:30?, can you move your car? (the owner moved his car, so I could take a picture of the facade), can you make us a reservation? And this one: can you get me a taxi at 5:30? - unlike at some other places - the taxi *was* there at 05:15... (Of course).Probably one the quietest hotels in Cusco. Although located at only a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas, at night the silence is - almost - deafening... There are signs "Be quiet please, from 21:00 on, people are sleeping" in all the stairwells, and the passengers obey them too...They picked us up on the airport, sent someone with us to catch the bus for a day-trip to the Sacred Valley, and had a taxi ready and waiting to take us back to the airport, without us even asking...The room was quite basic, exactly what you pay for, and no smoking, please. It's kept spic & span, the bed is excellent, even for me (1.92 m.) and the shower is very good with plenty of hot water. That's all we need from a hotel, anyway. Finally: breakfast. They do eggs anyway you want them, there is fruit, cereal, fresh juices, different types of bread, cakes, cold meat, excellent coffee, tea, milk, yogurt, etc. If you think something's missing from this list, is probably because I forgot...But in the end, it's the *people* that make this place outstanding. I have stayed in a lot of hotels in may different places in my life, bigger, fancier, more expensive. But I have rarely stayed in one, where the service was really 5 star. One of the best hotel experiences I've ever had, if not *the* best...

My husband and I picked this hotel based off of other trip advisor reviews. Let me preface my review with this: We aren't luxury seeking travelers, but we have experienced luxury. I would call rate this hotel with authentic, personable, casualness. We value the experience, authenticity, and creature comforts that add to the specific trip.Cleanliness: the grounds, staff, rooms, dining area, upper level spa, all of it are very clean. Location: Rumi Punku couldn't be at a better location! It is in between the shopping and museums around the Plaza and the road up to San Blas. We walked everywhere easily (even at the altitude). The door into the hotel is one of the last original Incan temple doorways left in Cuzco. When you walk into the hotel you are welcomed by the openness of the lobby courtyard. The views from the upper loggia are pretty cool.Rooms: Our room was on the top floor. We had a double bed with one of the fantastic norwegian down comforters. They were very comfortable and clean. We had hot water (very hot) every day. There was also t.v. if one is boring enough to watch it. (There are so many better things to do!) Being non smokers, it was hard to be around the smoking Europeans on the upper loggia that was by our room, but we kept the window shut when they were around.Service: The staff were fantastic. We emailed back and forth with our reservations. They were expecting us and ready for us when we arrived earlier than the check in time. My husband had altitude sickness pretty badly on the 1st full day there. The manager came back to the hotel (after he had already been home from work) late in the evening to make sure my husband had the oxygen tank working, was feeling better, and to check on him. The manager (and all other staff) went out of their way every chance they had. We left in the middle of our stay to do the 4-day Inca Trail hike to Machu Pichu. The hotel securely stored our luggage we weren't taking with us until our return and set us back up quickly in a room. Everything went flawlessly. The breakfast daily was just perfect. Great selection: eggs, pastries, fruits, cereals, juices, and GREAT COFFEE. Value: Compared to U.S. hotels and what you get for your money Rumi Punku is a great find. You get a balance between security/comforts/little luxuries and authenticity. There are a few other added values to note. The upper level is a newly added spa area with a nice sized hot tub surrounded by windows to maximize the views. There is free wifi through out the hotel and free internet on nice computers in the lounge area by the dining. Oxygen tanks to cure altitude sickness were complimentary with the room. The potted plants all over the lobby area and upper loggia were beautiful and added lots of character. The other guests were all great travellers and not "touristy"...which we loved. We stayed for 4 nights total. 2 before our hike and 2 afterwards

If you like your rooms spotlessly clean and secure and inside a beautiful colonial mansion, then you could do far worse than the Rumi Punku. We stayed in two different rooms for three nights each (with a trip to Machu Picchu in between) and really enjoyed it. It's a lovely place to put your feet up when the altitude catches up to you during the first few days, and the free coca tea only sweetens the deal. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful, and many of them speak English. It is one of the only hotels I noticed in town that always has a security guard out the front (complete with a shiny new revolver) so it felt very safe. One important point - when booking, ask for a room on the second or the third floor, as the first floor rooms are much less private and I would imagine noisier. All the rooms have wonderfully warm blankets and good satellite TV. Free wifi is included, but it tended to go on the blink every now and then, and it needs greater range. This is a great choice for Cusco - the perfect 'soft landing' into the Andes. Clean, comfortable, friendly and good-value - it would be hard to find somewhere better.

This hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from the "Plaza de Armas" and is set in a quiet location, apart from dogs barking in the local area in the evening. All rooms are "no smoking" but, if you are a smoker, ask for a room on the second or third floor which have access to a common balcony. The staff are wonderfully helpful and the rooms are pleasant, I just wish that they supplied electric kettles in their rooms, a problem we have found in all Peruvian hotels. The cost was USD60 per night per room but this is low season (Jan 2009) and included a continental style breakfast which included eggs cooked to your preference.Highly RecommendedPat and Ann G

This hotel is a short 5-10 minute walk from the Plaza de Armas. There are ample restaurants within close walking distance, and swing by Chez Maggy for some kick-butt pizza if you can. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grounds are pretty and very well maintained, and the rooms are clean and charming. The breakfast offers great food, and there is hot mate de coca available all day (along with dry leaves to take with you). The internet access in the breakfast room came in very convenient. We were picked up at the train station and transported to the hotel, and actually hooked up with the cab driver as a personal driver for the week ($50 for the entire day, wherever you wanted to go).

The Rumi Punku is a charming place to stay while in Cusco. They arrange to pick you up from the airport. The staff is multilingual and always very helpful and really try to make sure that you are safe and have a good time during your stay. Tea is always available in the lobby, along with 2 computers with internet and a flat screen TV to watch. Breakfast is great, with fresh fruit, cereal, bread, cheese, ham, hot chocolate and juice. It starts early -- at 5 am for those venturing out to Machu Picchu, which is really convenient. Rooms are cozy and clean. I would definitely recommend spending the extra couple of bucks to go to the jacuzzi room. You reserve it just for yourself and your group ahead of time. There is an awesome, 4 person jacuzzi, exercise equipment, table and chairs, sauna and changing room,, the view is incredible as well,, a great place to relax

I highly recommend the Hostal Rumi Punku. I found this small hotel to be charming, clean and comfortable. Most of all I found the innkeepers to be very very helpful and pleasant. I needed considerable assistance with lost luggage problems and unexpected transportation changes. In each situation the innkeepers patiently and cheerfully helped me resolve the problems.

We couldn't have been more pleased with Rumi Punku. The whole experience, from check-in after an overnight flight, breakfast, arrangements with the front desk, and storage of luggage was easy. Jorge at the front desk really took care of us. We stayed at RP for 2 nights before doing the Inca Trail and returned for 3 more. It was like coming home. Then when our flight was canceled and our departure delayed for 24 hours, Sergio welcomed us back like family. The location is excellent - away from the main plaza - no noise but close to good restaurants in San Blas quarter. Don't forget to try Cafe Punchay just two doors down for coffee and waffles.

Stayed there twice while touring Peru after staying at a 5-star hotel in Lima that should take lessons from this hotel.. The hotel is extremely convenient to everything. The interior of the hotel is something to see as the flowers and stone work are impressive in themselves. Free internet, clean rooms, and a great breakfast. The staff was wonderful and helpful. You could ask them anything and had a can do attitude. I have traveled all over the world and anything you asked was "of course" they could do it.

Everything was nice. Location was close to Plaza de Armas, there were markets and eating places nearby, staff was helpful, the room was nice and clean, the facility was attractive, breakfast was complete (even made the hard boiled eggs we preferred), and hot water was available when needed. (We did have a problem with the hot water at first, informed hotel staff, and it was resolved satisfactorily.) All in all, a nice place to stay. It seemed fully booked, and it is clear why. (Be sure to reconfirm your booking which we were told, by e-mail, to do. We did, and our room awaited us. Only problem. Since most rooms seem to face a courtyard, it could be a bit noisy when unthinking guests talk loudly, especially those leaving very early for the Inca Trail or to take an early train to Aguas Calietes (Machu Picchu).

Hotel Rumi Punku was an amazingly nice experience. Don't let the name "Hostal" fool you. This is a very nice hotel. Everyone is very welcoming & accomodating. It's like staying with a family in a home. I didn't feel like I was in a hotel at all. The rooms are very comfortable, charming & clean. There's a center courtyard that is beautiful. The breakfast area & common "living room" is spacious, nicely decorated & a great place to talk to other travelers during their stay. They have 2 computers with free internet access in this space as well as free wifi that worked great with my laptop. Since travelers' schedules are so different, they start serving breakfast at 5am til 10 & have hot food fixed to order. Plenty of juices to choose from. Coca tea is available 24/7, self serve. They have a safe to store your valuables in the room and a larger safe in the office for storing laptops if needed. I really didn't want to leave. If there were a 5 star American hotel for free in Cusco, I'd still stay at the Rumi Punku.
